  3. the Principal Probate Registry, where wills
  4. are kept, and by the University of London.
  5. Somerset House is also the new home of the
  6. Courtauld Collection of paintings. The river
  7. facade was designed by William Chambers. The
  8. General Register Office (births, marriages,
  9. and deaths), formerly at Somerset House, was
  10. merged with the Government Social Survey
  11. Department as the Office of Population
  12. Censuses and Surveys in 1970, and transferred
  13. to St Catherine's House, also in the Strand.
